Kristoffer's First Visit to Georgia

In February Kristoffer and I were able to go to Georgia for a couple of weeks. It was such a great visit. He got to meet a lot of my good friends and while we were there my best friend Kaitlin threw us a little baby shower. It was so wonderful and feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends!! Every time I go home I realize more how much I want to move back there. I am the person I am today because of where I grew up and the people I grew up with (and of course my wonderful parents!) I loved being in Georgia and can't wait to make it back!!

My little man

So my wonderful cousin, Haley Hawkes, was so kind to take a few pictures of Kristoffer for us and of course they turned out amazing!! If you are looking to get some pictures done she is definitely someone you should go to. Thank you so much Haley, your the best :)

These two boys definitely have my heart and I wouldn't want it any other way. They are seriously two of the best things that ever happened to me. Thank you boys for being so wonderful!

Also when I took Kristoffer to meet my Aunt Jan and Haley for the first time my Aunt was awesome and took some really great pictures of Kristoffer. I like to call these next pictures:
"The Many Faces of Kristoffer King"
Thank you so much Aunt Jan and Haley for capturing these beautiful moments! It really means so much to have these to be able to look back on down the road.

Kristoffer says its time to eat and then bed time :)

1 month old

Yep its true, this little man is 1 month old, and yesterday we got to celebrate it!

I'm happy and sad about this. I'm so happy that I have a healthy, happy, growing baby who melts my heart every time I see him. He is truly such a blessing in my life and now that he is here I couldn't imagine my life without him!

In celebration of Kristoffer, Taylor and I decided to go to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner and got some ice cream from cold stone after. Then we were got to go watch Taylor's brother Quin play basketball with his junior jazz league.

GO UNCLE QUIN! He played really great and we are so happy we were able to watch him play!
That was about it for our celebration activities. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun playing with our little man! Can't wait to celebrate many more mile stones together :)

Some milestones and fun things about Kristoffer:
  1. He has already rolled over 4 times! I don't think he really has it mastered but he can definitely do it
  2. At the moment I'm thinking he is going to have is daddy's perfect blue eyes, but who knows it could change.
  3. He smiles every once in a while, and when he does my whole world just stops and I just want to cry tears of joy. He is so perfect :)
  4. He loves to stand up with mama and daddy's help.
  5. He is quite skilled at holding his head up, we are so proud!
  6. He is still wearing new born clothes, which I don't mind because I want him to stay small forever but at the same time want him to grow because I can't wait to put him in his adorable 0-3 month clothes!
  7. He does well through the night normally only waking up once or twice, luckily only having a few nights with more than that!
  8. He does a great job at pooping his pants. He does it about twice every feeding.. The second time is always right after daddy had put on his new diaper. He for sure knows what he is doing :) ha
  9. Kristoffer LOVES to snuggle with his mama and daddy. Especially his mama.. I think he is going to be a mama's boy, but we will see :)

Motherhood is the best job I could ever ask for. I have always loved children and had always dreamed of working with them when I grew up. Now that I am kinda grown up I'm happy to say that I truly believe my dreams have come true. This job is definitely hard and for sure has its trying moments but I wouldn't trade any of them for anything in the world {well maybe I would trade our whole hospital visit adventure, but anyways!}. I know there are going to be many times that I don't think I can do this anymore but you know what there will be many more moments that I wont want to be doing anything else.

I love you Kristoffer King so much. Thank you for being so wonderful and teaching me so much in such a short period of time. You are perfect in every way and I wouldn't change a thing about you!
Love you- Mama and Daddy

4 weeks old

On Saturday Kristoffer turned 4 weeks old and tomorrow he will officially be 1 month! I just don't get where the time has gone.

Saturday was quite the day for us. My parents came into town for a couple of days. It was a lot of fun to spend time with them.
Kristoffer and I started our day off going to a super Saturday activity for my stake. They had a ton of classes you got to choose from and we got to go to three of them. They were really good and we had a lot of fun. Kristoffer was so good too. He just slept the whole time!

Next we went to Ellwin, my cousin Katy Jo's sons, birthday party with my mom. It was really awesome. My cousin did such an amazing job! It was really good to get to see my cousins too.
Birthday Boy eating his cupcake so nicely!

Last but certainly not least we got to go to the BYU basketball game. This was Kristoffer's first game and it was quite a success if I do say so myself.

And then there were THREE?!

I realize that this post is LONG over due but if you have children you understand that the first few weeks are crazy! Hey at least I'm doing this at all you know :)

I never got to experience the whole going into labor and rushing to the hospital thing. Still not sure if thats a good thing or not. We had hour 41 week doctor appointment on December 29th. We went in just thinking that they were going to check me and then we would be on our way to waiting some more for our little guy to want to show up. That is not at all how things went.

We didn't actually see Dr. Glenn when we went to our appointment. We saw one of the other doctors that works there. After she finished checking me she started talking to us about inducing and if Dr. Glenn had said anything about it to us. We told her that we had talked about but only once or twice. She told us that she was going to call him and ask him what he thinks about it and call us and see what he wants to do. We left and went on with our day running errands and things.

While we were at Macey's returning some groceries we didn't end up needing I got a call from the doctor. She asked me if I wanted to have a baby tomorrow.... TOMORROW??!! What did she mean tomorrow.. I was in totally shock but was able to answer with a .. "Sure"

After this conversation I called my mom and asked her if she wanted to me a grandma tomorrow... Then went on to call my siblings and inform them of what was going on. The nice thing about being induced was that I was able to call my family who are in Georgia and give them time to fly out here to Utah to be with us. Sadly my dad had just left on a trip to Spain the day before and wouldn't be back in the states till the 31st.. This was hard for me because I consider my dad and I very close and to have such a big event happen and him not be able to share it with me made me very sad. Luckily he would be able to fly out and be there to meet him soon after he was born.

Another plus to being induced was that we had the rest of the day to prepare.. We cleaned the apartment got all the bags packed and were able to enjoy our last meal as a family of two.

On December 30th we got a call at 8:00 am saying there was a room ready for us at the hospital. Now the funny thing was that I thought I was going to have the hardest time sleeping that night, but Taylor and I got in bed at about midnight and I was out within seconds and sleep through the night with no problems and was actually fast asleep when the hospital called. Anyways back to the story. After they called I woke my mom and sister up and started to get dressed to leave for the hospital. As I'm in the process of putting my pants on my mom says, "Janie aren't you going to shower??" Of course I was going to shower.. I was just putting my pants on the walk into the bathroom!! So from there I went to take a shower.. as planned ;)

We got to the hospital at about 8:30am and they had everything rolling at about 9:00am. The process was pretty slow since we were starting at a dilation of 1 and we had to get to 10. So there was a lot of just hanging out.

Taylor playing with the baby stuff
and me looking my very best :)
The contractions started pretty quick after we got there. I was pretty proud of myself and handling the pain. After a few hours I decided to get some pain medicine through my IV. This made everything so wonderful. Taylor says that minute I got the medicine I was a whole different person. I was talking at about 100 words a second and wouldn't shut up. I was just very happy and excited to be there :)

Now during my long wait of getting to this point they were checking me about every hour to see where I was at and how Kristoffer was doing. Kristoffer was actually laying post-terrier which means his head was facing up rather than down which isn't good. If Kristoffer wasn't able to flip on his own or the doctor couldn't flip him I was going to have to get a c-section. So I was really hoping they would be able to flip him because I really didn't want to have a c-section.

After they broke my water Kristoffer's heart rate started to go down. They weren't really sure why so they had to keep a close eye on that to make sure it didn't go to low or they would have to do an emergency c-section. All in all I had a pretty good chance of getting a c-section which I really didn't want to happen, but would do whatever I needed to do for Kristoffer.

So the labor continued slowly and my pain medicine started to stop working at about 4-6 cm. So I pushed through without any meds till I was at 7 cm and at that point I decided I was ready for the epidural, this was at about 12:00 am. The doctor came in and he was so great. I was so lucky with how smoothly everything went. The doctor was also very funny so it made it nice while I was getting a huge needle stuck in my back.
Once I got the epidural things started to speed up. I was at about 9 1/2 cm at about 1:00 am. The nurse came to check me about 30 minutes later and she said that Kristoffer had descended really far down and that she could see his HAIR yes she said hair!! My little guy had hair :) All my hair burn had paid off!! She also said that because he was so far down he must of flipped on his own so we were good to go and that it was time to start pushing.

Once I started pushing things went pretty fast. They called Dr. Glenn in and Kristoffer was delivered about 45 minutes later at 2:10 am.

Now the funny thing is that Kristoffer ended up coming out post- terrier. They don't know how he descended so far still being post-terrier but he did. Because of this Kristoffer came out with a huge purple bruise on his forehead and I had lost a lot of blood.

They also found out why his heart rate was dropping. The cord had been rapped around his neck 2 times! I'm so happy that he made it out okay and was a strong health boy :)

The love that I felt for this little guy was just unbelievable. I was sure my heart was going to burst right out of my chest. After the delivery I went into almost a shock mode. I don't really remember what went on but once they put Kristoffer in my arms my whole world just stopped and I felt like there was no one there except him and me. He was the most incredible thing and he was mine. I just looked at him and couldn't stop rubbing his face. He was perfect. I never thought I would be able to do much right let alone create this perfect little person.

We were our own little family. Taylor, me, and Kristoffer and I couldn't have been any happier.

Taylor was so wonderful through the whole thing and it was so great to watch him hold him. My two guys together. I couldn't ask for a better picture. I was just in awe with the little guy and to watch Taylor with him was just amazing.

We had the perfect ending to a perfect story.. but really it was only the beginning!

Till Next Time!

Our Adventure of January 18th

Our adventure really started Monday January 16th at about 10:30 pm, even though we didn't really now it. Kristoffer is really such a wonderful little man and doesn't ever cry unless he is hungry or tired, but Monday night he started crying at about 10:30 pm and didn't stop until about 3:00 am. Our first thought was NOOOOOO our perfect man is starting to cry randomly! Well the rest of the night went great and the following day too was awesome. We thought it was just a random cry (everyone deserves to have random cries right?)

Tuesday night it was 10:00 pm and Kristoffer was fast asleep so Taylor and I decided that it would be a good idea for us to call it a night early since we didn't get as much sleep the night before. We were laying in bed trying to fall asleep and at about 10:30 Kristoffer wakes up screaming, SUPER SUPER  congested, and coughing. I tried feeding him, wouldn't eat. So I thought maybe he was just upset about having a dirty diaper...

So I started to change his diaper and Kristoffer is really doesn't like having his pants changed but this time it wasn't his normal crying. He was screaming like he was in pain, then all of a sudden he just stopped breathing. Although it was only for a few seconds it honestly felt like minutes. I start screaming for Taylor, pick up my naked little man, start patting his back, and of course start crying. Then he starts to breath again. After holding him for a few minutes I finished changing his diaper and then didn't put him down.

After that the rest of the night just kinda consisted of crying, not being able to sleep, not eating well, and more crying. The little bit that he did sleep it had to be in my arms (which I'm not gonna lie, I really enjoyed. I love that my little man just needs me!)

Taylor and I decided that it would be a good idea for us to go see the doctor to make sure everything is okay. I called and got an appointment that day at 5:00pm. Taylor had work so I was gonna have to go to this appointment solo. Dr. Glade wasn't in the office that day so we went to see another doctor, Dr. Connor. When we got to our appointment I pulled Kristoffer out of his car seat and he was sounding so much better. I said to myself, of course you sound better now! Dr. Connor came in and she was so wonderful and really made us feel very comfortable. She said he definitely sounded very congested and I was like hmmm well this was actually pretty normal for him. I explained our night to her and she said that she was pretty concerned especially because he was only a few days over 2 weeks old. She said that we could get his nose suctioned out and if that doesn't fix his congestion we could admit him to the pediatrics at the hospital for the night to just have him watched.

I called Taylor and told him everything and that I was on my way to the hospital to get his nose suctioned out. I told him about what happened at the doctors and about being admitted to the hospital if needed. Now if you know me you can probably imagine how I was explaining this to Taylor, but to be honest I was really proud of how calm I was being on the outside compared to the way I was reacting on the inside!

After Taylor and I talked he decided that he was going get someone to go into work so he could leave and come be with us.

Long story short after getting Kristoffer suctioned out he still sounded pretty bad and the nurse lady said that she had never seen so much stuff come out of such a little guy. This didn't at all worry me! We went home and I called Dr. Connor after talking to her and then talking to Taylor it was decided that we would go to the hospital for the night.

We got there at about 10:00pm and they got him all hooked up to the monitors. They would come and check on him every few hours and suction him out about every 4 hours.

When morning came the doctor came in to talk to us about how he was doing and about going home! Which we were very excited for. He said that he was doing pretty good and that we should be able to leave. As he is talking to us he is also looking at his computer and in the middle of one of his sentences he stops and says, "huh.. well never mind.." What do you mean never mind? He then went on to explain that it turns out that Kristoffer has a virus. It is very similar to RSV, called Menonoma virus (don't think thats how it is really spelled but oh well!) with this virus days 3 and 4 are the worst and we were on day 3 so he could still potentially get worse. Because of this he said that would would need to stay another night.

Later that day I had to go to an eye appointment. Luckily it was at the hospital so I wasn't having to go too far. While I was at my appointment Taylor called and said that they were going to be putting him on oxygen because his numbers had been dropping. {of course this had to happen while I was gone!} So when I got back my little guy had a little oxygen tube attached to his face. My heart just broke! After that things were pretty quite. They would check in him every few hours and suction his nose at least every 4 hours.

The next morning the doctor came in and said the Kristoffer had been doing great. He said that they were going to take him off the oxygen and if he did okay for 6 hours we could go home! So 5:30 was the magic number and you better believe we were counting down the hours!

Taylor ended having to leave for work at 2:30 so I was left to pack up and get Kristoffer home. Needles to say we made it to 5:30 and were able to go home!

Since then we have had to go back to the hospital at least once a day and get him suctioned out but we are definitely on the rode to a great recovery!

Thank you so much for all the prayers and kind words!

His adorable baby hospital gown!
